Shirley M. Diel, nee Jahn, 87, of Cahokia, Ill., born May 7, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mrs. Diel was a retired cook from Cahokia Unit School District 187. She was a longtime member of the St. Catherine Laboure Kitchen Band and Mothers and Friends Club. She loved to work in her garden and tend to her flowers. She would feed any stray animal that would come by her house.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Diel; parents, George and Pearl, nee Werner, Jahn; and three sons-in-law, Dennis Rybacki, Herb Laquet, and Michael Scholbe.
Surviving are her children, Roger (Sue) Diel of Florida, Ron (Rose) Diel of Dupo, Ill., Renee Scholbe of Cahokia, Ill., Roxana (Rudy) Teason of Cahokia, Ill., Rayleen (Ron Johnson) Rybacki of St. Louis, Mo., Rob Diel of Indiana, Russ (Jill) Diel of Georgia, Rita Diel of Cahokia, Ill., and Rich Diel of Cahokia, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was a dear aunt, cousin, and friend.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2016, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2016, at Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at the funeral home, with Father Linus Umoren officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
