Sylvia Hennessy

Sylvia Hennessy, nee Tomasich, 94, of Cahokia, Ill., born April 27, 1922, in Granite City, Ill., passed away Friday, June 17, 2016, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Ill.

Sylvia was a waitress at Sonny's Village Stop in Cahokia for 18 years. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia, and loved quilting and working at the Friday fish fries during Lent at Holy Family Church. Sylvia will be remembered for her kindness, her smile, her love for her family and especially her love for her pets.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hennessy; her parents, Anna and Pete Tomasich; an infant brother, Pete Tomasich; sisters, Mary Tomasich and Rose Barr; and a grandson, Kyle Bequette.

She will be terribly missed by her children, Tim Hennessy of New Douglas, Ill., Kathy (Dennis) Chester of Edmond, Okla., and Maureen (Wayne) Brown of Millstadt, Ill.; grandchildren, Kristine (Aaron) Goldberg, Dan (Shelly) Hennessy, Greg (Heather) Chester, Jill (Donavan) Chester, and Kelcy (Vince) Bequette; great-grandchildren, Lanie Goldberg, Allison Hennessy and Everett Chester; dear niece, Sandy Curran; and former daughter-in-law, Terrie Hennessy.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Family Hospice for all their support and care for Sylvia and her family.

A special thank you to all the angels at Freeburg Care Center for all their love and caring during Sylvia's three and a half year stay. They became her extended family.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016, at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the funeral home with Monsignor Carl Scherrer officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
