Thomas David Benignus, 56, of Belleville, Ill., born Feb. 12, 1957, in Belleville, Ill., died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at the Barnes-Jewish Extended Care Facility in Clayton, Mo.
Tom graduated from Althoff Catholic High School in 1975 and from the University of Missouri at Rolla with a degree in electrical engineering in 1979. He became a certified public accountant in 1993. He worked in engineering for Emerson Electric in St. Louis, Mo., and recently retired from the Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems of the United States Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
Tom and his partner, Tim, enjoyed traveling and returned from a month in Paris in October. Tom enjoyed visiting flea markets and was knowledgeable about architecture of the Victorian era and German culture.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marie, nee Griesedieck, Benignus.
Surviving are his partner, Timothy Willman of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Chris (John) Bruell of Varna, Ill.; an aunt, Marion Griesedieck of Belleville, Ill.; and three cousins, Mary (Ron) Crank of Harrisburg, Ill., Lucy (David) Nile of St. Louis, Mo., and Genie (Tom) McClain of Columbus, Ohio.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 8707 W. Main St., Belleville, Ill.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at the church with Father Matthew Elie and Father Clyde Grogan concelebrating. Burial will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
