Vernon Miener

Vernon W. Miener, 86, of Grantfork, Ill., born Tuesday, June 18, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

Mr. Miener grew up in St. Jacob, Ill. He moved to Grantfork where he was a livestock, dairy, and grain farmer. He was also a laborer and a member of the Laborers Local 680 of Highland (presently Laborers Local 397-Granite City), where he served as business manager for many years. He and his son, Larry, started Miener Nursery, where they raised and planted large trees. Vernon enjoyed his life working, farming, fishing, and spending time with his family.

He was a member of Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, Ill., Masonic Lodge 583, A.F.&A.M. (Masons) in Highland, Ill., and former member of Laborers Local 397-Granite City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille M., nee Rinderer, Meiner, whom he married on Saturday, June 16, 1951, and who died Tuesday, March 24, 2009; parents, William T. and Alice M., nee Duft, Miener; brother, Donald P. Miener; and sister, Ruth A. Meffert.

Surviving are her daughters, Lynn M. Miener of Glen Carbon, Ill., and Carolyn S. Miener of Saint Jacob, Ill.; son, Larry L. (Denise) Miener of Pocahontas, Ill.; grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Evans of Troy, Ill., Jamie (Jared) Krieg of Worden, Ill., and Courtney (Andrew Dillow) Miener of Highland, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Maddox Krieg and Owen Evans.

Visitation: Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.



Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill., with Pastor Charles West officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, Ill.
