Wayne Julius Stumph, 85, of Leland, N.C., born May 4, 1931 in Belleville, Ill., passed away on Oct. 17, 2016.
On June 13, 1953, he married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Millecker, who survives. They celebrated more than 63 years of marriage together.
Wayne earned a bachelor's degree at Washington University in St. Louis and masters and doctorate degrees at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale Ill. Dr. Stumph was an administrator for Southern Illinois University, Belleville Area College in Ill., Frederick Community College in Md., Keene State College in N. H., and Reading Area Community College in Penn.. In retirement, Wayne and Marilyn traveled widely, often with family and friends, through all 50 states, and in Canada, Mexico, Germany and Austria. In North Carolina, Wayne and Marilyn enjoyed playing pinochle with new found friends and celebrating Oktoberfest with the Harbour Towne Fest Band.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Mae, nee Severit, Stumph.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn, of Leland, N.C.; children, Kathy (Dave) Preston of Carolina Shores, N.C., Joseph (Joyce) Stumph of Dorsey, Ill., Julie (William) Sloup of Oak Island, N.C., and Eric (Marichris) Stumph of Leland, N.C.; grandchildren, Chad Stumph of Clarksburg W. Va., Shawn Stumph of Dorsey, Ill., Timothy Canty of New York City, N. Y., William Stumph of Sacramento, Calif., and Angela Stumph of Chapel Hill, N.C,; brother-in-law, Tom (Karen) Millecker of St. Louis Mo.; niece, Sara (Andrew) Karcher of St. Louis, Mo.; and nephew, Brett (Abigail) Millecker of St. Louis, Mo.

Services: A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Southport N.C.
