Wilbert L. "Willie" Weis, 80, of Pocahontas, Ill., born June 20, 1936, in Highland, Ill., died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at his residence.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron, Ill., American Legion Lee Iten Post No. 439 in Highland, Ill., Iron Workers Local No. 392, a member and past president of Madison County Chapter of the former NFO, and a charter member of Pierron Improvement Club (P.I.C.).
Wilbert L. Weis was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, Ill. He grew up on the Weis family farm northwest of Pierron, Ill., and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Pierron, Ill. Willie served with the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 with the Second Armored Calvary in Bamberg, Germany, and finished his reserve duty in 1965.
Upon returning home, he married Anna, and they operated a dairy farm until 1965. He briefly sold farm machinery, worked for Farmers Equipment in Trenton, Ill., and worked at Wicks Organ Factory, Broadway Battery and Tire and Drda Electric. As a sideline, he raised hogs from 1973 into the mid-1980s. In 1972, he started working part-time for the iron workers, became full-time shortly thereafter and retired in 1997.
He enjoyed playing cards (Jass, Pinochle, Rummy, etc.), golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting and pitching horseshoes; he started the league in Pierron, Ill., and pitched for 43 years, only missing one match. He had also enjoyed boating and water skiing, and spent hours volunteering at Pierron Park and helping at the church.
He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Weis, who died July 7, 1962; mother, Edna E., nee Frisse, Weis, who died April 25, 1981; a son, Robert A. Weis, who died May 21, 1983; a daughter, Linda B. Fehrmann, who died Oct. 12, 2010; two sisters, Marie K. Deak, who died Dec. 31, 2000, and Bertha R. "Bert" Geiger, who died May 14, 2015; three brothers, Earl L. Weis, who died Oct. 29, 1994, Raymond F. Weis, who died July 10, 2003, and Lester F. Weis, who died Jan 11, 2006.
Surviving are his wife, Anna L. "Annie", nee Wilke, Weis, whom he married Aug. 17, 1960, in St. Rose, Ill.; three daughters, Patricia A. Huber of Edwardsville, Ill., Carolyn R. (Virgil) Rehkemper of Glen Carbon, Ill., and Mary M. (Special Friend, Kenneth Weiss) Kampwerth of Highland, Ill.; a son-in-law, Paul Fehrmann of Glen Carbon, Ill.; grandchildren, Kim A. (Fiance, Curtis Morrow) Rehkemper, Kraig W. Rehkemper, Brendan J. Rehkemper, Brock D. Huber, Katie M. Kampwerth, - Sarah E. Kampwerth, Ava C. Fehrmann, and Jack R. Fehrmann; two brothers and a sister, Cyril "Cy" (Delores) Weis of Pocahontas, Ill., Francis Luitjohan of Grantfork, Ill., and Herbert (Shirley) Weis of Saint Jacob, Ill.

Visitation: Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron, Ill., with Father Scott A. Snider, Pastor, celebrant and Fr. Pat G. Jakel, St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, Ill., con-celebrant. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pierron, Ill.
