Willard H. "Bill" Holtzman Sr., 83, retired founder of Holtzman-Bechtal Corps., died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Bellefontaine Gardens Nursing Home in north St. Louis County.
Mr. Holtzman was born and raised in north St. Louis. He
graduated from Beaumont High School in 1938. Mr. Holtzman attended Washington University and taught drafting at St. Louis University during World War II. Mr. Holtzman began his career as a mechanical engineer at Barry-Wehmiller and later as a sales rep for Sprout-Waldron. In 1964 he founded his own manufactures' rep firm of Holtzman-Bechtal. He was an entrepreneur extraordinaire. Mr. Holtzman was a member of the Engineers Club of St. Louis, Toastmasters Club, Missouri Athletic Club and Norwood Hills Country Club.
Mr. Holtzman was an avid golfer whose handicap was 6 even into his 70s. He was fortunate to have more than one hole-in-one over the years. In his retirement Bill enjoyed golf and taking his poodle dog, Chris, for long walks. Mr. Holtzman married the love of his life, LaVeryne Niedringhaus in 1941. Together, they enjoyed a lifelong passion for the game of golf as they played courses around the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bertha, nee Schwary, Holtzman; and his brother, Edward G. Holtzman, a St. Louis attorney, who is survived by his wife, Nellie Durocher Holtzman.
Surviving are his wife, LaVeryne, nee Neidringhaus, Holtzman; two daughters, Susan Holtzman of Belleville, Ill., and Judy (Leroy) Hamann of Belleville, Ill.; a son, Willard H. "Bill" (Debbie) Holtzman Jr. of Belleville, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Willard Scott Hamann, Willard "Bill" Holtzman III and David (Katie) Holtzman. Mr. Holtzman was loved and will be missed by all.

Visitation: Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Stygar Florissant Chapel, Florissant, Mo.
Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Stygar Florissant Chapel, Florissant, Mo. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
