William E. "Bill" Green, 68, of Granite City, Ill., born Feb. 19, 1948, in Litchfield, Ill., passed away at 8:45 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Ill.
Bill retired from Granite City Steel in 2004 after 38 years of dedicated service as a firefighter. He was a member of the Granite City Elks Lodge 1063 and Eagles Aerie 1126. He enjoyed his days of golfing and traveling and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Bill will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda, nee Martin, Green, whom he married on August 15, 1970, in Mount Olive, Ill.; parents, John and Mary, nee Vukelich, Green; and a brother, Jack Green.
Surviving are his daughter, Kelly Green Gardner of Alton; son, John Green of Steam Boat, Colo.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Frank and Shirley Green of Tuscon, Ariz., Charlie and Harriet Green of Rochester, Minn., and James "Beaver" Green of Mount Olive, Ill.; a sister, Cathy Houghtby of Springfield, Ill.; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

Visitation: In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Ill.
