Yoko Cullen

Yoko M. Cullen, nee Yokoi, 85, of Belleville, Ill., born April 23, 1926, in Nagoya, Japan, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 18, 2011.

Mrs. Cullen was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill. She was an avid bingo player. Yoko also enjoyed karaoke, sewing, cooking, lunching with family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 44 years, Gordon F. Cullen, whom she married Feb. 27, 1956, in Nagoya, Japan, and who died Feb. 10, 2000; her parents, Takisaburo and Yoneko, nee Sato, Yokoi; a brother-in-law, Sid Barnes; and many dear friends.

Surviving are four daughters and a son, Margaret Cullen of Belleville, Ill., Rita Cullen (Jerry Mouser) of O'Fallon, Ill., Susan Cullen and Janet (Darwin) Shearrer, both of Belleville, Ill., and Joseph Cullen (Jackie Cordero) of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Christopher Cullen, Tanya Brown, Crystal Brown (Jimmy Buelhorn), and Heather Brown (Bert Frink); a great-grandchild, Zander Brown; five brothers, Shotoro (Yoshiku) Yokoi, Tokinori (Yoshe) Yokoi,and Masao (Tukiko) Yokoi, all of Nagoya, Japan, Haruich (Sachyo) Yokoi of Yokohama, Japan, and Hidko Yokoi of Nagoya, Japan; a sister-in-law, Norma Cullen-Barnes of Lenoir City, Tenn.; a niece, Kerry (Danny) Isbill of Temple, Ga.; a nephew, Craig Nowicki-Barnes of Lenoir City, Tenn.; many other nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of many dear friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral procession will leave at 9:40 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, from George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Henry Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., with the Rev. Kenneth York officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
