Robert S. Hinkle, 87, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born Feb. 15, 1926, in Marion, Ark., died Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Caseyville Nursing & Rehab Center, Caseyville, Ill.
Bob was a graduate of East St. Louis Senior High School, Class of '44, and a 1951 graduate of the University of Illinois. Bob was a gifted athlete and member of the football and track teams at both schools. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army-Air Corps. He was a member and former chairman of the City of Fairview Heights Planning Commission and was a city alderman. He was the past president of the Fairview Heights Khoury League and a coach for various football, baseball and basketball teams for many years. Bob retired after 30 years as a pharmaceutical representative for Dow Chemical.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert S. Hinkle Jr.; his parents, Robert and Ruth, nee Stanfield, Hinkle; his two brothers, Thomas Hinkle and David Hinkle.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marion, nee Murphy, Hinkle; his daughter, Patricia (Robert) Brennecke, of Belleville, Ill; a daughter-in-law, Judy Hinkle of Fairview Heights, Ill.; four grandchildren, Robert J. Brennecke of Wichita, Kan., Kim (Eric) Norlin of Shiloh, Ill., Kristina Hinkle and Alexandra Hinkle, both of Fairview Heights, Ill.; one great-grandson, Aaron Podniestrzanski of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Alma Hinkle and Mary Hinkle, both of Fairview Heights, Ill.; his aunt, Virginia Harlan of Marion, Ark.; and he is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, Ill., with the Rev. Dr. Willard Pierce officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
