Ann Pates, 85, of Pontoon Beach, Ill., born on Feb. 6, 1929, in Fayette City, Pa., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville, Ill.
Mrs. Pates was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, past president of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 1126 and Granite City Garden Study Club. Ann had retired in 1979 from ARA Vending Company at S.I.U.E. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted mother, wife, homemaker, great cook, and of course an avid gardener. Ann will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband the love of her life, William Donald Pates, whom she married on Feb. 15, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas; parents, George and Elizabeth, nee Brilla, Fedora; her daughter, Cynthia Pates; four brothers, Charles, Mike, Paul and John Fedora; sister, Sophie Spanos and three infant sisters.
Surviving are her loving children, William (Patricia) Pates Jr., of Las Vegas, Nev., Robert Pates of Granite City, Ill., Dennis (Denise) Pates of Granite City, Ill., Joseph Pates of Somerset, Texas, Evelyn Pates of Granite City, Ill., and Julie Adams (David Britton) of Granite City, Ill.; three brothers, Alex Fedora of Jamestown, Calif., George Fedora of Jamestown, Calif., and Frank Fedora of Granite City, Ill.; two sisters, Helen Paschedag of Madison, Ill., and Pauline Walker of Granite City, Ill.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in the form of masses, Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the

Funeral: In celebration of her life, Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Granite City, Ill., with Father Daniel Bergbower officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Maryville Road Granite City, Ill.
