Rita Parker

Rita E. Parker, nee Rice, 89, of Belleville, Ill., born Feb. 24, 1925, in Bloomington, Ill., died Friday, March 14, 2014, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.

Mrs. Parker was a charter member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, and a charter member of the Rosary Club at the church. She was a member of the YMCA.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Alfred L. Parker Sr., whom she married May 17, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., and who died April 19, 1998; a granddaughter, Jody Belcher; her parents, Frank and Mary, nee Dietrich, Rice; two brothers, Richard Rice and Charles Rice; two sisters, Florence Lesh and Sister Eileen Rice; a sister-in-law, Julie Rice; and a brother-in-law, Larry Lesh.

Surviving are seven children, Al (Andrea) Parker of Belleville, Ill., Bob (Kim) Parker of Columbia, Ill., Bill (Miranda) Parker of Collinsville, Ill., Jim (Bobbie Jo) Parker of Valley Park, Mo., Mary (Jim) Belcher of Meadows of Dan, Va., Judy Bauer of Belleville, Ill., and Carol (Dennis) Grainger of Swansea, Ill.; 22 grandchildren, Stacey (Bill) Kurich, Eric Parker, Catie (Vincent) Mudd, Becky (Benjie) Osborne, Greg (Lauren) Bauer, Nick Bauer, Tom Bauer, Mark (Lacee) Bauer, Beth (Calvin) Savage, Dawn (Bill) Bredenkoetter, Angela Grainger, Jeff Grainger, Josh Grainger, Jennifer Holt, Todd Parker, Dalton Akley, Justin Akley, Zack Parker, Maya Parker, Peter Parker, Brayden Parker, and Liam Parker; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald (Betty) Rice of Belleville, Ill., James (Betty) Rice of Pennsylvania, and Bernard Rice of Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Alice Rice of Minnesota and Betty Rice of St. Louis, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Dammert Geriatric Center at the Shrine, and Memorial Hospital for the care and concern for mom.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., with Msgr. William McGhee officiating. Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
