Emil Tejkowski

Emil John Tejkowski, Retired USAF Lt. Col., 67, of Belleville, Ill., born April 24 1946, in Chicago, Ill., passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill., after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Emil was deeply proud of his distinguished service in the US Air Force and the Missouri Air National Guard, as well as his 34-year career as an Air Force civilian. He was a loving husband to his wife Mary for almost 44 years. Emil was a caring father and doting grandfather, and enjoyed woodworking and reading. His greatest interest made him an accomplished amateur genealogist and expert on the histories of West Prussia and South Chicago. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth, nee Hawk, Tejkowski, whom he married on Sept. 6, 1969, and who died on May 7, 2013; his parents, Emil L. and Stella, nee Staroch, Tejkowski; and a sister, Joan (Donald) Yovich.

Surviving are his five children, Erick (Lisa Paredes) Tejkowski, Melanie (Chris) Glasgow, Gretchen (Dave) Anderson, Jim Tejkowski, and Amanda Tejkowski. He was the loving grandfather of Mercedes Tejkowski, Connor Glasgow, McKenna Glasgow, Leopold Tejkowski, Evan Anderson, Garrett Anderson, and Emil Roman Tejkowski. Also surviving are his sister, Cynthia (John) Schaffer.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral procession will leave at 9:15 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, for a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., with Rev. James Thomas officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
