Dolores Burnworth

Dolores J. Burnworth, nee Goetz, 83, was born on June 11, 1930, in East St. Louis, Ill., and died March 15, 2014 in Venice, Fla., surrounded by her husband and children.

She was raised in Alta Sita and graduated in 1948 from St. Teresa's Academy. She attended Le Clerc College in Belleville, Ill. She married William "Bill" Burnworth in 1950, and throughout their 63 wonderful years of marriage they together ran Peerless Furniture Co. and raised five children. She was active in the Queen of Peace Ladies' Sodality, Meals on Wheels and the St. Clair County Women's Club.

Dolores provided a warm loving home for her husband and children and all friends were considered family. No one left her home hungry or without a hug. If you were one of the lucky ones, you had the good fortune to have a slice of her delicious apple pie. She always worried that her pie was not sweet enough, but just like her, it always was. She set an excellent example of selfless love for her husband, children, grandchildren and her many friends. Especially dear to her were those who considered her a second mom or honorary grandma.

Dolores was a woman of unquestioning faith. She had a special devotion to our Mother of Perpetual Help, and friends and family always knew to go to her for special prayers. Her example of faith and prayer was a beautiful gift to all of us.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, and their children, John Burnworth, Jeff (Geri) Burnworth, Mike (Belinda) Burnworth, Ann (Butch) Lewis, and Billy (Lisa) Burnworth; her twelve grandchildren, J.C. and Chris Burnworth and their mother, Linda Burnworth, Allison Burnworth, Maggie, Sara, and Grace Burnworth, Rachel, Clay and Cole Lewis, and Brad, Ross, and Page Burnworth, and her first cousin, Jean (Tom) Dinges and their children.
