Delores Schell, nee Herrick, 81, of Shiloh, Ill., born May 27, 1932, in Corning, N.Y., died in her home Monday, March 17, 2014.
Delores received her nursing degree from the University of Rochester School of Nursing. While working at the University of Buffalo's medical center, she met her patient and future husband, John Schell. Soon after marrying, Delores and John moved to California and eventually resided in San Diego where they raised their four children. After raising her children she resumed her nursing career and eventually retired as a psychiatric nurse. She and her husband then moved to Belleville, Ill., so they could be close to their two sons, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John R. Schell, whom she married on Feb. 2, 1956, and who died on April 5, 2006; her parents, Clarence and Margaret, nee Johnson, Herrick; and her brother, Robert Herrick.
Surviving are her children, John C. Schell, Mark (Sandy) Schell, Keith (Mary) Schell, and Karyn Schell; and six grandchildren, Nicole, Anthony, Samantha, Kristen, Rachel, and Allison.
Delores was a lifetime caregiver, as was evident not only through her extensive nursing career, but also as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend.
