Thomas Cowell

Thomas P. Cowell, 61, of Baldwin, Ill., formerly of Red Bud, Ill., born July 11, 1952, in Red Bud, Ill., passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Tom was a former Red Bud businessman and retired from Baldwin Power Plant after 31 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Cowell and Alfrieda, nee Wittenauer, Cowell-Wodecker; and a sister-in-law, Linda J. (William) Cowell.

Surviving are his wife, Janice Cowell (DuFrenne) whom he married on Dec. 29, 2012; children, Dan (Tracey), Amy, Rick (Lisa) and Andrew; grandchildren, Madison, Grant and Noah; siblings, William J. Cowell, Mary Lou (Larry) Blow, James (JoAnn) Cowell, Patricia Miller and Bridgie (Dave) Young; friends of the family, Steven Unverferth and Mark Wilkening; godchildren, Chris Cowell, Justin Schmidt and Kristian Miller; stepchildren, Leo (Laura) DuFrenne, Kelley (Frankie) Brosch and Tony (Jessica) DuFrenne; step-grandchildren, Kaden and Kobe Brosch, Chase Dayton, Maggie, Brogan, Khloe and Gabriel DuFrenne. Tom was a loving uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Saint Louis University Cancer Center or the donor's choice.

Funeral: A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Ill., with Msgr. Dennis Schaefer officiating.
