Roland Hanebutt

Roland George Hanebutt, 86, of Red Bud, Ill., born Jan. 14, 1928, in rural Evansville, Ill. As a result of his faith in God's free gift of grace, Roland entered into eternal life with Jesus on April 16, 2014.

During his life, Roland worked on the family farm, at Witte Hardware in St. Louis, Mo., with Randolph Service Co., (FS), at Wiegmann's in Freeburg, and at the Red Bud Hardee's. He was also a meter reader for the city of Red Bud and an election judge. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Bud and a member of its Men's Club. He was also a member of Randolph County Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary, nee Kueker, Hanebutt; a daughter, Mary Ann; brothers, Elroy, Melvin, Floyd and Firmin; and a sister, Leoneda Walker.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Margaret, nee Liefer, Hanebutt, whom he married on June 24, 1951; two sons and a daughter, Gerald (Jill) Hanebutt, Katherine (Dennis) Grohmann and William (Patricia) Hanebutt, all of Red Bud, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Brad (Beth) Grohmann, Chad Grohmann, Stephanie (Brad) Wilmotte, Rachel (Nathan) Mathews, Angela (Bryon) Rahn, Andrea Hanebutt, Sarah (Blake) Diewald and Seth Hanebutt; 10 great-grandchildren, Makenna, Maggie, Brooke, Lucas, Zachary, Addelyn, Brody, Reagan, Nolan and Lane; three sisters, Verna (Tony) Hennerich of Chester, Geneva Stellhorn of Red Bud and Marlene Deterding of Prairie de Rocher; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Martha Hanebutt, Emily Hanebutt, Lowell (Mildred) Liefer, Dorothy (Earl) Ruez and Paul (Helen) Liefer.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Renovation Fund or the Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Visitation: Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at Koch-Liefer Funeral Home, Red Bud, Ill., and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Red Bud, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Nebel and Rev. Russell Koen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
