Jerry Donley

Jerry Donley, 74, of Granite City, Ill., passed away at 11:40 p.m. on April 25, 2014 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. with his loving family at his side. Jerry was born on Feb. 17, 1940 in Granite City, Ill., a son to the late Curtis and Robbie (Settle) Donley.

Jerry graduated from Granite City High School and was the class president from 1954 -1958. On Sept. 9, 1960, Jerry married Judy Martin, the love of his life in Granite City, Ill., and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2014. Jerry retired from Granite City Steel in 1992 as a maintenance foreman. He was a member of Dewey Avenue United Methodist Church, Ducks Unlimited both in Granite City, Ill., Migratory Waterfowl in Alton, Ill., and Past President of the Granite City Soccer Association. He was also a member of the Greater St. Louis Dahlia Society and annual flower show grand sweepstakes winner five years in a row. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting geese, ducks and fishing, he was an excellent fisherman and was a fishing guide for many years at Rend Lake in Southern Illinois. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially with his four grandchildren whom he adored. Jerry will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife.

He is survived by his four loving children, Jeffrey Donley of Granite City, Ill., Jill (Mark) Schoen of Gillespie, Ill., Joel (Debbie) Donley of Edwardsville, Ill., and Julie Donley of Maryville, Ill.; loving grandfather to Blake Straubinger, Jacob Donley, Andrew Jones and Alex Lochmann; sister, Jean Hileman of Granite City, Ill.; sister-in-law, June Greathouse of Alton, Ill.; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stanley and Virginia Martin of Granite City, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, Ill., with Pastor Doug Pascoe officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
