Joseph Murphy

Joseph A. Murphy, 84, of Belleville, Ill., born Sunday, June 16, 1929, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at St. Paul's Home in Belleville, Ill.

Joseph worked for Local 100 laborers for over 60 years. He last worked for Commonfield of Cahokia Water District. He was a member of Winstanley Baptist Church in Fairview Heights, Ill., East Lodge 504 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Ainad Shrine, Ainad Krazy Klowns and was a Korean War United States Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. and Susie N., nee Hooker, Murphy; and a son, Timothy J. Murphy.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel, nee Munro, Murphy; daughters, Linda (Greg) Meahl of Ocala, Fla., and Cynthia (Tom) Dickerson of Belleville, Ill.; grandchildren, Tina Dickerson, Landon Meahl, Timothy Dickerson, Gerren Meahl, Chase Meahl, Carys Meahl and Louis T. Dickerson, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Sharon) Munro of Oakville, Mo., and Earl (Judy) Munro of Baneberry, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Delores (Hermie) Hermanson of Lebanon, Ill., and Norma (Adrian) Croissant of Belleville, Ill.; and dear nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Winstanley Baptist Church in Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Winstanley Baptist Church in Fairview Heights, Ill., with Dr. Steve Phillips and Rev. Wendell Garrison officiating. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
