Betty Macke

Betty Jane Macke, nee Mitchell, 91, of Belleville, Ill., born Dec. 28, 1922, in Belleville, Ill., died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at St. Paul's Home, Belleville, Ill.

Betty was employed by W.T. Grant Company and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, Ill., and volunteered for various organizations for many years.

Betty was always interested in physical fitness and was an active member of local health clubs. She loved animals and plants, gardening, attending concerts, reading, politics, and current events. A devoted mother and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her many friends. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, her friendliness, her quick wit and sense of humor, her entertaining stories, and her beautiful smile.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Macke, who died in May of 1994; her parents, Charles and Martha, nee Louis, Mitchell; three sisters, Margaret Harper, Eleanor Schmidt, and Ann Fellner; and a brother, Charles "Chuck" Mitchell.

Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen (Craig) Liddy of Belleville, Ill.; her son, Frank J. Jr. (Marian) Macke of Macon, Ga.; two granddaughters, Amy (Yavuz) Bilecan of St. Louis, Mo., and Rebecca Liddy of Chicago, Ill.; and two sisters, Helen Rhein and Peggy Funsch, both of Belleville, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, Ill., with Pastor Drew Kramer officiating.
