Jon Schneider

Jon D. Schneider, 75, of Highland, Ill., born Sept. 3, 1938, in Indianapolis, Ind., died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Jon grew up in Wheaton, Ill., and graduated from Wheaton Community High School. He had lived in Glen Ellen, Lombard, Sycamore and Mascoutah, Ill., and moved to Highland, Ill., in 1978. After high school he served with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1959 with duty in Germany and Italy. He was trained as a helicopter mechanic and became a crew chief. His professional career after the Army started with Continental Telephone, later GTE, as a lineman. He retired from GTE in 2000 as executive director of finance. He had a farm near Mulberry Grove, Ill., and enjoyed keeping his machinery working. He loved his family and was a very generous person. He was a member of Highland Southern Baptist Church in Highland, Ill., and former member of Grace Church in Creve Coeur, Mo. and Toastmasters International.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace E., nee Bergendoff, Schneider, whom he married May 25, 1960, in Indianapolis, Ind., and who died Feb. 19, 2008; a daughter, Paula J. Koley; a son, David Jon Schneider; parents, Austin E. and Lucille A., nee Carlson, Schneider; and a sister, Linda Bourgeois.

Surviving are two daughters, Andrea K. (Lon) Schwend of Greenville, Ill., and Errin L. (George) Neuner of St. Peters, Mo.; a son-in-law, Ronald C. Koley of Pierron, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Dustin M. (Laura) Barry of Highland, Ill., Eric J. (Bethany) Barry of Highland, Ill., Danielle M. Barry of St. Peters, Mo., Dyllan A. Schwend of Greenville, Ill., Austin R. Schwend of Greenville, Ill., Cassidy A. Schwend of Greenville, Ill., George A. Neuner of St. Peters, Mo., and Josephine G. Neuner of St. Peters, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Molly E. Barry of Highland, Ill., and Michael J. Barry of Highland, Ill.; a sister, Catherine (Arnold) Trillet of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a brother, Dr. Gerald (Amy) Schneider of Somerville, Mass.

Memorials may be made to the or the Salvation Army.

Visitation: Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Billy Blackmon officiating. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery, Highland, Ill.
