Roy L. Reding, 89, of Highland, Ill., born June 14, 1925, in Highland, Ill., died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, Ill.
Roy was born and reared at Highland, Ill. He worked at Hug Trucking Company, Basler Electric, Polar Ice and Fuel for 25 years, city of Highland for 15 years, Ken's Greenhouse, and retired from the city of Highland in 1987. In his earlier years, he helped make hay and shuck corn for area farmers. He also mowed lawns for several people. In 1950, he built his home on Deal Street, where he lived with his wife all of their married life. He was a former Boy Scout leader. He loved to fix things, dance, travel, and spend time with his family, especially his sons and grandson, and adored his wife of 64 years. He enjoyed playing checkers, horseshoes, dominoes, and fishing. He also loved his 1954 blue Chevy pickup truck and his 1939 John Deere Tractor.
Roy was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. He was also a member of Church Brotherhood, Weinheimer Senior Citizens and IMRF Chapter 31.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Catherine, nee Haas, Reding; brothers, Melvin, Selmar, Rolland and Wilbur Reding; sisters, Stella Bohnenstiehl, Helen Reding, died as infant, Irma Iberg, Ruth Reding, died as infant, Laura Reding, Martha Warnecke and Irene Plocher; brothers-in-law, Waldo "Bud" Merkle, Leonard Plocher, Duane Warnecke, Oliver Iberg, William Bohnenstiehl, Jerome Roth, Norbert Von Hatten, Richard Lebegue and David Rommerskirchen; and sisters-in-law, Florence Lebegue, Ann Von Hatten, Stella Reding and Florence Reding.
Surviving are his wife, Viola Velma "Tootie", nee Merkle, Reding, whom he married on Sept. 28, 1949, at E & R Church in Highland, Ill., by Pastor Fred Aldrich; his sons, Dennis R. (Peggy) Reding of Highland, Ill., and Kenneth W. Reding of Highland, Ill.; a grandson, Nathan A. (Kelsey) Reding of Grantfork, Ill.; a great-grandson, Lucas Alan Reding of Grantfork, Ill.; his sister, Betty Roth of Moberly, Mo.; godchildren, Steven (Dana) Oravec of Highland, Ill., and Monica (Dan) Hurford of Glen Carbon, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Doris Reding of St. Jacob, Ill., Eileen Reding of Highland, Ill., Judy Merkle of Highland, Ill., Mary Manville of Highland, Ill., Evelyn Rommerskirchen of Pocahontas, Ill., and Peggy Oravec of Highland, Ill.; and brothers-in-law, James Manville of Highland, Ill., and John Oravec of Highland, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Evangelical United Church of Christ with Rev. Christopher W. Hill officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery, Highland, Ill.
