Charles Cathcart

Charles Joseph Cathcart, 82, of Marissa, Ill., born on August 4, 1931, in Randolph County, Ill., passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the New Athens Home for Aged in New Athens, Ill.

Mr. Cathcart was a coal miner and a crane operator. He was a member of the Marissa Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder and trustee. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Charlie greatly enjoyed woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents , James and Jessie, nee Short, Cathcart; a grandson, Shannon Cathcart; a granddaughter, Jody Lynn Demsar; a brother, Richard Cathcart; and a sister, Olive Evans.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty, nee Sauerwein, Cathcart, whom he married on April 28, 1956, in Marissa, Ill.; a son, Randy Cathcart of Marissa, Ill.; a daughter, Debbie (Kevin) Demsar of Marissa, Ill.; 3 grandchildren, Ryan (Crystal) Cathcart of Marissa, Ill., Kyle (Jen) Demsar of Marissa, Ill.; Jamie (Joe) Weihe of New Athens, Ill.; 6 great-grandchildren, Nolan Cathcart, Ashlynn Cathcart, Taylor Demsar, Kyler Demsar, Grady Weihe, Dory Weihe; and a sister, Virginia Robinson of Ballwin, Mo.

Memorials may be made to the Marissa Presbyterian Church.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home, Marissa, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Marissa Presbyterian Church, Marissa, Ill., with Rev. James Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Marissa Township Cemetery, Marissa, Ill.
