Fred W. Dietz, 95, of Highland, Ill., born Nov. 23, 1918, in Marine, Ill., passed away at 5:35 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, Ill.

Mr. Dietz was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of Helvetia Sharpshooters Society.

Fred was born on a farm North of Marine and had lived South of Marine most of his life. He graduated from Marine Grade School. In the early 1940's he purchased the current family farm, and raised grain and hogs most all of his life. Even in his retirement he would visit the farm every day, it was his total life. For over 50 years he and his wife went dancing every Saturday night. He enjoyed his grandchildren very much.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice H., nee Ahring, Dietz, whom he married on Nov. 16, 1940, at the Rectory/St. Paul Church in Highland, Ill., and who died June 5, 2010; and his parents, Henry and Mabel, nee Moriarty, Dietz.

Surviving are his son, Russell A. (Shirley) Dietz of Highland, Ill.; grandchildren, Diane C. Dietz of Springfield, Ill., John F. (Donita) Dietz of Marine, Ill., and Joseph A. Dietz (girl friend, Meghan Hunsche) of Highland, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Hannah M. Cunningham of Marine, Ill., and Adisyn M. Cunningham of Marine, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at the funeral home with David S. Bohnenstiehl officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery, Highland, Ill.
