Margaret Duhasek

Margaret "Margie" Duhasek, nee Schutzenhofer, 68, of Highland, Ill., born Aug. 26, 1945, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, in Highland, Ill., with her family at her side.

Margie was raised in Fairmont City, Ill., and graduated from St. Teresa Academy in 1963.

A single mother who raised three college graduates, Margie worked as an accounting clerk for Feralloy Corporation in Granite City for over 25 years. Beloved mother, sister, aunt, and cousin, she was a devoted friend to countless others. A member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Margie was a selfless caregiver and an excellent listener whose involvement in the community was far-reaching. She was known for her quick wit, her storytelling gifts and her willingness to laugh.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Vasquez; her parents, Joseph and Margaret, nee Egan, Schutzenhofer; and former mother-in-law, Caroline Tarjany.

Margie is survived by her children, Keely (Liam Davis) Vasquez of Chicago, Ill., and Barry Duhasek (significant other, Kortney Mueller) of Highland, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Sarah Vasquez of Naples, Fla.; stepchildren, Jackie (Scott) Rader and Jonathon Duhasek; step-grandchildren, Morgan and Sydney; a sister, Jo Anne (Weldon) Theobald; a brother, William (Dolores) Schutzenhofer; former father-in-law, Albert Tarjany; two nephews, Jeff and Tim Theobald; three nieces, Maggie (Jack) Doran, Lisa Schutzenhofer and Susan (Vince) Nacewski; great-nephews, Justin, Jonathon, Will and Joseph; and great-nieces, Sarah, Morgan, Ashley and Katelyn.

Memorials may be made to her most cherished foundation, The Gary Vasquez Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Highland Area Community Foundation.

Visitation: A memorial visitation will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, Ill.

Funeral: Mass of Christian burial will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, Ill., with Rev. Charles A. Edwards officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Highland, Ill.
