Harold Oberkfell

Harold "Honey" "Ike" Lawrence Oberkfell, 85, of Maryville, Ill., born March 25, 1929, in Maryville, Ill., passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014, at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. Oberkfell was a retired assembly line worker for General Motors, St. Louis, Mo.; he was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran; a past member of the Maryville City Council; Maryville Volunteer Fire Dept.; Democrat Club; UAW Local 25; played for the Maryville Red Sox's of the Southwestern Illinois Inter City Baseball League; and a life-long resident of Maryville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Ruth, nee Johnson, Oberkfell, whom he married in Pocahontas, Ark. in 1950, and preceded him on Oct. 5, 2003; a son, Paul Michael Oberkfell; his parents, Lawrence J. and Marie Dorothy, nee Kessler, Oberkfell; two brothers, Kenneth "Mope" Oberkfell and Gus Oberkfell.

Surviving are his children, Keith (Marsha) Oberkfell of Troy, Ill., Cheryl Walker of Maryville, Ill., Karen (Tim) Gent of Godfrey, Ill., David (Cindy) Oberkfell of Collinsville, Ill., Traci (Raymond) Deien of Boca Raton, Fla., and George (Amy) Oberkfell of Collinsville, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; two sisters, Charmaine Shadwick of Maryville, Ill., and Isabelle "Belle Ann" Hunsche of Troy, Ill.; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Funeral: A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 7110 State Route 162, Maryville, Ill., with Rev. Tom Hufty officiating.
