Robert Bergmire

Robert "Butch" Bergmire, 76, of O'Fallon, Ill., born Monday, Sept. 27, 1937, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at his residence.

Butch was the Owner/Operator of Robert Bergmire Trucking. He graduated from East St. Louis High School in 1955. Butch attended his first auto race at the age of 12 years old and loved auto racing the rest of his life. At the age of 15 he drove a truck by himself to Columbus, Miss., and back, which started a career as a truck driver which lasted 60 years. He received a Million Mile Award in nine years. Butch joined the French Village Volunteer Fire Department at the age of 21 and served as a Captain, Assistant Chief, and Chief. He was a member of the East Lodge 504, AF & AM.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Venita M., nee Cherry, Bergmire.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Patricia Ann, nee Renfro, Bergmire of O'Fallon, Ill.; children, Robert "Buddy" C. (Cathy) Bergmire of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Virginia "Ginny" (Keith) Klasing of Venedy, Ill.; brother, Mike (Barbara) Bergmire of Ballwin, Mo.; five grandchildren, Lauren (George) May, Aaren Nickelson, Jamie (Dan) Shearer, Nicole (Justin) Hicks, and Keith L. Klasing; eight great-grandchildren, Jordan May, Levi Hartmann, Faith Shearer, Presley Shearer, Amy Hicks, Wyatt Hicks, Tyler Hicks, and Christopher Klasing.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., with Dr. David Pieplow officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
