Bernell Mueller

Bernell Violet Mueller, nee Ritter, 88, of Columbia, Ill., died peacefully in her sleep the morning of August 5, 2014, at Oak Hill Nursing Home in Waterloo, Ill., where she resided over the past year.

She was born October 29, 1925, in Columbia, Ill., to the late Louis G. and Cora, nee Kremmel, Ritter. Bernell was received into the Kingdom of Grace through Holy Baptism on Nov. 22, 1925, the Rev. J. Loose, officiating at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Columbia, Ill. On April 2, 1939, Bernell confirmed her baptismal vows at St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Rev. N. Hilderbrandt, officiating.

Bernell worked as a telephone operator and an office employee in the St. Louis area, but is most remembered for being self employed as a beautician, who worked from her home for many years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbia, Ill. Bernell was active with Sunday School, Choir, Ladies Aide as both member and officer; Bible Studies; Couples Club; and organizing/leading members-young and old; for cleaning the church at its current location. She enjoyed hosting seminary students and clergy families, as well as cooking, baking, gardening and tending household plants, crocheting, and family gatherings.

Bernell was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Marvin H. Mueller, whom she married on Oct. 28, 1945, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, St. Louis County, with the Rev. August K. Stenzel officiating; her parents; three brothers, Clement, Harold, and Wayne; and a sister, Berniece Lepp.

Surviving are a son, Rev. Ronald (Kathy) Mueller of Barron, Wis.; two daughters, Cheryl (Rev. Donald) Andrix of Norwood, Minn.; Barbara (Rev. Royal) Boeder, of Maeystown, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Todd (Kristen) Andrix of Owatonna, Minn..; Jenni (Michael) West, of St. Paul, Minn.; Ryan (Melanie) Mueller of Jenison, Mich.; Joel Andrix of Norwood, Minn.; Hanni (Tom) Cowley, of Thorpe, Wis.; Aaron (Kaja) Mueller, of Iowa City, Iowa; Ruth Boeder of Ypsilanti, Mich.; Daniel Boeder of Maeystown, Ill.; Benjamin Boeder of Red Bud, Ill.; and Luke Boeder of Maeystown, Ill.; great-grandchildren: Annika, Addison, and Brynn Andrix; Abraham, Phoebe, Joseph, and Mira West; Raelyn, Avery and Macy Cowley; Chase Mueller; and Evelyn and Kean Mueller; two sisters, Marlyn (Herbert) Stemler, and Ruby Asselmeier; a brother, Dale (LaVerne) Ritter, Sr.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014, at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Columbia, Ill.
