Dr. Kenneth J. Hillmer D.D.S., 89, formerly of Granite City, Ill., born Nov. 15, 1924, in Granite City, Ill., passed away at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Quincy Veteran Home.
Dr. Kenneth Hillmer D.D.S. was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. He owned and operated a general dentistry practice in Granite City for 44 years prior to his retirement. He graduated from St. Louis University School of Dentistry in 1957 and was a life time member of Madison County Dental Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary, nee Rapp, Hillmer; and three brothers, William, Vernon and Donald.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jean, nee Huxel, Hillmer, whom he married on Nov. 17, 1950, in Granite City; twin daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Ann Hillmer of Granite City and Pamela Jo and Michael Allen of Granite City; granddaughter, Alexandria Jean Allen of Granite City; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Doris Colligan of Glen Carbon, Kathleen and Robert Lombardi of Edwardsville, Marilyn and William Kortkamp of St. Charles, Mo.; and three sisters-in-law.
Memorials are preferred and should be made to Quincy Veterans Home Mark Ward II.
Visitation: In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Thomas Saksa Funeral Home in Granite City, Ill., with Rev. David Fielding officiating.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Entombment will be at a later date in Sunset Hills Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Ill.
