Robert "Mike" Bastilla
Robert M. "Mike" Bastilla, 65, of Highland, Ill., born Feb. 11, 1948, in Elmira, N.Y., died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Bastilla was a member of the First Congregational Church in Highland, Ill., where he was the current financial secretary.
Mike was born in New York but at the age of three months his family moved to Highland, Ill. He was a 1966 graduate of Highland High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Navy Commendation Medal w/ Combat and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Medal. After the service he worked at Artex in Highland, Ill. He graduated from M.P.T.I. and started his computer career. He had worked for First National Bank in Belleville, Ill., NCI in Fairview Heights, Ill., Holmes Serum Co., for three years and AT&T in St. Louis, Mo., for 20 years, from which he retired. Mike enjoyed John Wayne movies, reading, volunteering for HACSM, his church, Cardinals baseball and assembling model cars and planes. He was always on his computer and he read the Bible daily.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert F. Bastilla.
Surviving are his wife, Lorene R., nee Vandever, Bastilla of Highland, Ill., whom he married on Saturday, April 18, 1970 in Cahokia, Ill.; mother, Shirley J., nee Hug, Bastilla of Highland, Ill.; sons, Bryan L. (Katherine) Bastilla of Highland, Ill., and Dean M. Bastilla (fiancee, Lindsay Hendrix) of Granite City, Ill.; daughter, Kimberly A. McArthur of Highland, Ill.; grandchildren, Kyle E. Bastilla of O'Fallon, Ill., Bailey M. Bastilla of O'Fallon, Ill., Jamie M. McArthur of Highland, Ill., Loryn M. Bastilla of O'Fallon, Ill., Anna N. McArthur of Highland, Ill., Stacie E. McArthur of Highland, Ill., Sophia R. Bastilla of Highland, Ill., and anticipating a baby Bastilla in September; sister, Nancy A. McCaw of Highland, Ill.; niece, Amanda C. (Paul) Schulz of Collinsville, Ill.; nephew, Robert O. "Bobby" McCall of Highland, Ill.; and great-nephew, Blake A. McCall of Highland, Ill.

Friends may also call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the First Congregational Church in Highland, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 1st Congregational Church in Highland, Ill., with the Rev. Greg S. Brady, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
