Arthur Joellenbeck, 91, of Okawville, Ill., born Oct. 23, 1921, in St. Louis, Mo., departed this life at 10:15 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, in the Washington County Hospital in Nashville, Ill.
Mr. Joellenbeck was baptized on Nov. 13, 1921, in St. Peter's Church in St. Louis by Rev. Wm. Hackmann and was confirmed on April 14, 1935, in St. Peter's Church in Okawville by Rev. Roland Hosto.
Mr. Joellenbeck was a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations as chief clerk at the headquarters of General Douglas MacArthur. Following the war, Art owned and operated Joellenbeck Bros. Lumberyard in Okawville until his retirement in 1990. He was a faithful member of the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Okawville, where he had served on the church council and the cemetery committee. Art also served on the Okawville Fire Department and served as an Okawville Fire Department Director for several years. He was also a member of American Legion Post 233 in Okawville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Christine, nee Randoll, Joellenbeck; and a daughter, Vicky Gaebe.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey, nee Bohbrink, Joellenbeck, whom he married on Nov. 9, 1946, in the parsonage of St. Peter's Church in Okawville by Rev. Edwin Wahl; two daughters, Peggy Maschhoff and husband Robert of Jacksonville, Ill., and Lori Frederking and husband Duane of Chatham, Ill.; six grandchildren, Jason Maschhoff and wife Tania, Andrew Maschhoff and wife Anita, Angela Gentry and husband Kelly, Joshua Gaebe, Jenna Ford and husband James, and Ryan Frederking; and other relatives and a host of friends.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Siteman Cancer Center, St. Peter's Cemetery, Washington County Hospital, or to the Heritage House Museum Association and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home. Online expressions of sympathy may be made at www.campagnafuneralhomes.com
Funeral: In accordance with the wishes of Mr. Joellenbeck, a private funeral service will be held.
