William Garrett

William K. Garrett, 89, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born Monday, Feb. 25, 1924, in East Saint Louis, Ill., died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

William worked as a representative for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and retired in 1976 after 22 years of service. He was a member of Winstanley Baptist Church in Fairview Heights, Ill. He was originally a member of First Baptist Church in Washington Park, Ill., where he was very active in the church doing a lot of repair work and serving as a Sunday school teacher. He was also a World War II Navy veteran. William was a wonderful father and husband.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Lee Brown; parents, William F. and Jennie, nee Nelson, Garrett; sisters, Mae Kinney, Irene Bosworth, Lucille Oliver, Louise Woodall, Alma, Bernice and Thelma Garrett.

Surviving are his wife, Della E. Garrett, whom he married May 12, 1944; children, William "Ron" (Vicky) Garrett of Mena, Ark., Judy (Mike) Burns of Granite City, Ill., and Trudy (Clark) Triplett of St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Winstanley Baptist Church in Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Winstanley Baptist Church, with Dr. Steve Phillips and the Rev. Wendell Garrison officiating. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
