Harry Glass

Harry Edward Glass, 93, of Granite City, Ill., born March 23, 1920, in Lake County, Tenn., passed away at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Ill.

The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during World War II, following Gen. Patton in the 3rd Army as a cannoneer throughout Germany.

Mr. Glass retired from National Lead and was a faithful and dedicated member of the Collinsville Church of Christ. He enjoyed his days of bowling and fishing and played softball in his younger years. Harry will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louis, nee Holt, Glass, whom he married on July 24, 1942, in Portageville, Mo., and who died Dec. 7, 2004; his parents, Jesse Edward and Pearl, nee Swindle, Glass; a son, Tony Glass; brother, James Glass; and two sisters, Edith Bugg and Betty Russ.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Mel and Sandy Glass of Edwardsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nettie and Mike Martin of St. James, Mo., and Dawn and Robert Patrich of Granite City; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruth and Delmer Wilkey of Obion, Tenn., and Maxine Crabtree of Lake County, Tenn.; and other extended family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Collinsville Church of Christ and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor Terry Mabery officiating. Burial will full military rites will be at St. John Cemetery, Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.
