Delmar Brandenburger

Delmar L. Brandenburger, 86, of Smithton, Ill., born Dec. 17, 1926, in Prairie Du Long Township, Ill., died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Ill.

Mr. Brandenburger worked for Laclede Gas Company before his retirement, and was a member of the Laclede Gas Retirees Club. He was a member of the Broad Hollow Grange, the St. Clair County Pomona Grange, the Illinois State Grange, and the National Grange. Delmar was a member of the Smithton Turner Society, and a longtime member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Smithton, Ill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents, Alex G. and Florence K., nee Schmiedlin, Brandenburger; four brothers, Roy, Glen, Clifford, and Ralph Brandenburger; and a sister, Doris Walston.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Arlene, nee Schulz, Brandenburger, whom he married on August 31, 1952 at St. John United Church of Christ, New Athens, Ill.; a daughter, Linda (Larry) Rensing of Smithton, Ill.; three grandchildren, Leah Rensing, Larry Rensing Jr., and Lucas Rensing; his twin brother, Dale (Shirley) Brandenburger of Millstadt, Ill.; a sister, Virginia Hill of Freeburg, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Bernadine Brandenburger of Effingham, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Smithton, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Smithton, Ill., with Rev. Mark Strothmann officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill.
