Robert Sova Sr.

Robert L. "Bob" Sova Sr., 83, born June 25, 1930, in Collinsville, Ill., entered into eternal peace on Monday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Gulfport Memorial Hospital, Gulfport, Miss. He was residing at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Miss.

Mr. Sova retired after serving twenty years in the U.S. Navy and Air Force, fighting in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He then retired from Labor Local 44. He was a member of the VFW Post 1376, Mount Vernon, Ill., the American Legion Post 141, Mount Vernon, Ill., AMVETS, Mount Vernon, Ill., DAV Post 28, Mount Vernon, Ill., NRA, and Labor Local 44 for 12 years. Over the years, he loved the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, canning, and wine making were just a few of the things he loved to do. He also loved to learn about other places and their languages. The few places he traveled to, he thoroughly enjoyed.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cory Wilson; his parents, Mathew and Mary Irene, nee Yont, Sova; and two sisters, Betty Jean Shelton and Mary Louise Lankford.

Surviving are his seven sons and daughters, Karen Sova of San Diego, Calif., Gary Sova of Scottsdale, Ariz., Marcia Sova-Felker of Santa Fe, Texas, Tina Keller of Maryville, Ill., Robert Sova Jr. of Collinsville, Ill., Mathew Sova of Collinsville, Ill., and Angela Jones of Midlothian, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Broc, Adrienne, Kelli, Lindsey, Brittany, Lauren, Matti, Trey, Kamren, Christian and Kasey; three great-grandchildren, Gideon, Eliana and Adelie; and a brother, Orville Sova of Collinsville, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill., with Father John Beveridge officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
