Lawrence E. Hopkins, 83, of Granite City, Ill., born March 9, 1930, in Newcomb, Tenn., passed away at 3:42 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Ill.
Mr. Hopkins retired in 1980 from A.O. Smith Corporation after 29 years of dedicated factory work. After his retirement he worked as a security officer from 1980 until 1991 at the Granite City Port District. He was a member of Niedringhaus United Methodist Church in Granite City, Ill. He enjoyed his days of traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and repairing just about anything. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Anne, nee Moses, Hopkins, whom she married on July 24, 1948, in Jellico, Tenn., and who died on Dec. 5, 2010; parents, Jess and Garlis, nee Blankenship, Hopkins; and a brother-in-law, Gene Moses.
Surviving are his daughter, Joyce Elizabeth Hopkins of Granite City, Ill.; son and daughter-in-law, Larry Ray and Jennifer Hopkins of Rising Fawn, Ga.; two grandsons, Steven Hopkins of Boston, Mass., and David Hopkins of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Barbara Hopkins and Don and Carol Hopkins; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lois Moses and Shirley and Butch Davis, all of Knoxville, Tenn.; other extended family and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call in celebration of his life from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Llewellyns Funeral Home, 750 South Main Street in Jellico, Tenn.
Funeral: Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the funeral home in Tennessee. Burial will follow at Douglas Cemetery in Jellico, Tenn.
