Earl Kesner

Earl K. "Bun" Kesner, 86, of Highland, Ill., born Dec. 2, 1927, in Marine, Ill., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Faith Care Center, Highland, Ill.

Earl was born on the family farm near Marine, Ill. He worked hauling milk, and later was an over the road truck drive and hauled oil out of Granite City, Ill. He started Kesner Fertilizer, selling it to R & T Amonia. He and his wife wintered in Florida for many years, and moved to Faith Village in the early 2000s. He enjoyed plauing cards, fishing and liked to dance. He was a member of VFW Post 5694 in Highland, Ill., the Helvetia Sharpshooters Society, and was a charter and retired member of the Grantfork Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty M., nee Weiss, Kesner, whom he married Feb. 26, 1949, and who died March 21, 1990; parents, Louise H. and Evelyn C., nee Franz, Kesner; a daughter, Darla A. Smith; a brother, Wilbur L. "Willy" Kesner; and two sisters, Evelyn Louise Hartlieb, and Nelda L. Gretefendt.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene A. Korte Kesner, nee Halbe of Highland, Ill.; a daughter, Carol A. (Charles) Kynion of Marine, Ill.; four grandchildren, Rae Lynne (Brian) Meyer of Marine, Ill., Jill M. (Jay) Bloemker of Highalnd, Ill., Gary A. Runge of Vandalia, Ill., and Sabrina Smith of Dublin, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren, Mikayla R. Bloemker of Highalnd, Ill., Kylie A. Bloemker of Highland, Ill., and Robbie C. Meyer of Marine, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Grantfork United Church of Christ Social Hall, Grantfork, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the church. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery, Highland, Ill.
