Raymond Bagley

Raymond L. Bagley, 92, of Belleville, Ill., born June 16, 1921, in Starford, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Dammert Geriatric Center in Belleville, Ill.

Mr. Bagley graduated from what is now Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pa. He was a past master counselor of the Indiana Chapter Order of DeMolay, a lifetime member and 60-year member of St. Clair Lodge No. 24 Ancient, Free & Accepted Masons. He was also a past treasurer of Hunter Employees Credit Union and was past president (1964) of the Southern Illinois Chapter of Credit Unions.

During World War II he was a civilian instructor at Scott Field. In February 1987 he retired after 40 years with Hunter Packing Co./John Morrell, working most of those years in the personnel office in East St. Louis, Ill., and his final years of employment as a computer programmer in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Raymond was a golfer and enjoyed the Monday morning league at Yorktown Golf Course, serving as league secretary for several years and playing until he was 90 years old.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marian O., nee Schwaegel, Bagley, whom he married Nov. 10, 1945, and who died June 6, 2006; his parents, Homer and Blanche, nee Stephens, Bagley; his brother, Retired Col. Ronald Bagley; brothers-in-law, Edwin "Bud" Freeman and Anthony Kazmer; and a nephew, Phillip Freeman.

Surviving are his children, Robert (Susan) Bagley of Belleville, Ill., and Marguerite (Charles) Gosnell of Macomb, Ill.; grandchildren, Brenna (Jason) Fischer of Millstadt, Ill., and Dr. Elizabeth (John) Dewey of Greensboro, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Kyle Fischer and Matthew, Alexandra, and Brandon Dewey; his sister, Alma Kazmer of Indiana, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Sarah Bagley of San Antonio, Texas and Marguerite Freeman of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; and three nieces and one nephew.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, 120 N. Illinois St., Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Graveside services for family will be Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill., with the Rev. Drew Kramer officiating.
