Edward Mumphard

Edward Eugene Mumphard, 68, born on Aug. 5, 1945, in Scooba, Miss., departed this life on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, in Meridian, Miss.

Edward was the second of seven children born to George Mumphard and Eula Mae Gilbert-Mumphard and they have preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by one son, Edwin Eugene Mumphard.

Ed grew up in East St. Louis, Ill., in the Goose Hill community. He was educated in the East St. Louis Public Schools. Following high school, Ed joined the U.S. Army, where he served admirably as a medical technician and sharp shooter.

Edward is survived by Ella R. Mumphard and their sons, Undre' (Sharron) Howard, Burrantus (Kimberly)Mumphard of East St. Louis, Ill., and Atlas (Markesha) Mumphard of Scooba, Miss.; two daughters, Essie Rice and SiNecea Mumphard, both of East St. Louis, Ill., and his sons, George W. Mumphard III, of St. Louis, Mo., Keith (Kim) Rice of Fairview Heights, Ill., Donte Rice of Springfield, Ill., and Montra Mumphard of Springfield, Ill.; three brothers, George (Flora) Mumphard Jr., of Washington Park, Ill., Willie Mumphard of East St. Louis, Ill., and Lonnie Mumphard of Scooba, Miss.; three sisters, Ella M. Mumphard of Scooba, Miss., Ernestine Fox of East St. Louis, Ill., and Christine Mumphard of Smyrna, Ga.; two uncles, L.A. (Mattie) Gilbert and Alex Gilbert, both of East St. Louis, Ill.; and an aunt, Pearl Gilbert of East St. Louis, Ill.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.

Visitation: Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at St. Mark Missionary Church, 42nd Caseyville Ave., East St. Louis, Ill.

Funeral: Local services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in East St. Louis, Ill. Interment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Ill.
