Donald West

Donald "Donnie" Grover West, 54, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Bay Pines VA Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla. Mom, Dad and his loving wife, Elaine, were at his side when Don left this Heavenly Earth, after a long battle with Melanoma Cancer and transitioned into the Eternal Life to be with The Lord.

Donnie was born to Grover West and Barbara, nee Reid, West on Sept. 8, 1959, at Mitchell AFB in Hempstead, N.Y. He currently resided with his wife, Elaine in North Fort Myers, Fla. A 1977 graduate of O'Fallon Township High School, he entered the U.S. Air Force in January of 1978 where he served for five years as a C-141 Cargo Loadmaster and was highly praised for his outstanding performance of duties. He greatly enjoyed his worldly travels during his Air Force career and shared many stories of his expeditions.

After his time in the Air Force, Don went on to share his skills and expertise in such career fields as personal fitness trainer, carpenter, car salesman and most recently as CEO of He Lifts Me, a company dealing in a premium quality line of pool & spa lift chairs. He was a perfectionist at heart and made it his mission to satisfy everyone he worked with. If his charm didn't get you, his sense of humor did!

Donnie was an avid fisherman and shared countless memories of fishing with his family and friends. Don's priorities were Church, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother, David Monroe West; grandparents, Enid Gresham, Lloyd and Minnie Reid.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine West; parents, Grover and Barbara, nee Reid, West; sister, Debra West Monroe; stepson, Michael (Katie) Mills; grandchildren, Jackson and Kinley; nephews, Matthew and Michael Monroe; niece, Marlee Bourne (Bon); his beloved dog, Masey; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Donnie will be sadly missed by many and never forgotten, as we celebrate him home to his eternal resting place.
