Ron was a tennis friend I met at the Stanwood fitness club, and that is how I came to know him. He was always warm and willing to be helpful, not only as a tennis coach but as a friend. Most importantly, Ron was a constant gentleman on the tennis court. He taught the meaning of sports, how to keep perspective and have fun. Most of all, not to take one's self too seriously. I will miss his ready smile, his kindness and friendly greeting. Win or lose, I wanted to be on Ron's side of the net.

Ron was fun. I will always remember the way he laughed at us on the first day of Spanish class by making us call ourselves burros (jackasses.) I still remember all the spanish dialogues he assigned the class to memorize. He always took us to eat at Mexican restaurants and told fun stories about his travels. He was one of my favorite teachers. My prayers go out to Ron's family and friends.

Mr. Shannander, I am shocked to read of his passing. I am so sorry for his family. He was my Spanish teacher, my tennis couch and one of the best memories of a teacher I will always have at SWHS. I will always remember his smile and kind heart. Such a special man and I feel blessed to have known him.

Ron was a tennis buddy and friend. We met in the '70's on the Hill-crest courts. He taught us how effective and aggressive the lob can be. The 80's and 90's passed. We meet again, this time on the Stanwood Tennis Club courts. For many of the last few years we were on the same teams and practiced on a weekly basis together twice a week. I will always remember Ron for his level composure and kindness. We all learned something from him.
I sympathise with the family and send my condolences especially to Shirley and Anthony. I will not forget the brief time we spent living together in Sunriver during the tennis tournament in Sunriver.

My tennis buddy Ron was much more than just a #1 tennis player, coach and fan. Everyone he played tennis with benefitted from his tennis skills, his good sportmanship, his humor and his caring. He played competitively, but always with integrity and creative shot making that was admired by his partners and his opponents. For several years Ron and I have played together twice a week and I am sure going to miss him, not just on the court, but as a friend and mentor. Helen and I send our condolances to Shirley, Anthony and all of Ron's family.
