Thomas Darus Obituary

Thomas Derus was born on August 19th, 1933 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from Bayview High School and attended college classes in his hometown. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1955 with a tour in Germany. Tom spent two years doing X-Ray training in Colorado Springs, fought forest fires, logged in Idaho, installed ceramic tile in Wisconsin, as well as working on the sewer and gas pipe lines. He was also department head of several hospitals, most recently being the department head of Northwest Medical Center. He worked there for 25 years until retirement. Tom entered everything with one hundred percent zeal. His hobbies included gardening, knitting, model railroads, making bread and pie, fishing, and hunting. He was a ham radio operator and a guitar player. Tom attended River of Life Church, serving his Lord and fellow members throughout the years as a worship team musician, teacher, organizer for men's activities, and board member. Tom loved his family. He was a loving and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed. Tom is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joann, son Russell Derus of Lake Stevens, daughters Ruby Hoeckett (Duane) of Acme, Robyn McKay (Mark) of Mill Creek, and Connie Derus of Seattle, as well as eithg grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Sylvester Derus, mother Constance Derus, and sister Carol Ryan. There will be a Memorial Service held at River of Life Church, Van Zandt, WA on Saturday, July 20th at 2pm. Arrangements by:

I worked with Tom at Northwest Medical Center for 10 years. I was down the hall in the lab. Tom was always a lovely man, so kind and friendly. I will always remember that about him. The world was a better place to have Tom in it. I'm blessed to have known him.
