Earlene Urquhart, who passed away at the age of 70 on December 28 in Bellingham, was a woman who wore many hats. You may have known her because she was your Bluebird leader, or your Day Camp Director, or PTA President and your recess lady at North Bellingham Elementary. Maybe you went to Ferndale High School with her, worked beside her at Wal-Mart, volunteered with her at Assistance League or the Senior Center, or simply knew her as the chatty lady who stood behind you in line at the store. Many people referred to her as their second mom.
Toward the end of her life, she wore even more hats, this time to cover the head left bare from chemotherapy. She wore them proudly, buying a new one to match each outfit.
The hat she never removed, though, was that of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always said her greatest accomplishment was her children. She was incredibly proud to have created the legacy that resulted in the following family of survivors: daughters Diane (Bob) Huiezinga, Barb (Vern) O'Brine, Denise (
Steve) Adams, and Connie Urquhart; sons Jon (Loida) Urquhart and Don Urquhart; grandchildren Stephanie (Myles) Younger, Lily (Jon) Okeson, Melissa O'Brine, Samuel Adams, Ben O'Brine, Steve Adams, Jeremiah O'Brine, Katie Adams, Andrew Urquhart, Allison Urquhart, and Jacob Urquhart; great-grandson Gunnar Okeson; sister Glenda (Robert) Lamm and brother Jim McSorely; and a vast support system of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her sister Barbara Abel and her husband of 44 years, David Urquhart.
Services will be held at 10am on Thursday, January 3rd at Moles Farewell Tributes, Greenacres Memorial Park, 5700 Northwest Drive, Ferndale, WA followed by a celebration of her life at 12:00 noon at Fox Hall, Hampton Inn, 1661 W. Bakerview Rd in Bellingham. Donations can be made to Whatcom Hospice House.
