Born May 2, 1922, in the family farmhouse in Sidney, Montana, the second daughter of Henry and Hazel Kossack; graduated Missoula High School in 1940. After graduation Lucille moved to Seattle where she met and married her husband of 46 years, Daniel Boone Twining, who preceded her in death in 1989. Dan's employment took the young family to Missoula, Montana in 1947, where they resided until relocating to Bellingham in 1960. Lucille held various jobs in the food service business, as a baker in a bakery in Missoula, and as a waitress at the old Royal Inn and the Horseshoe Café in Bellingham. She retired in 1980. She was most proud of her Montana heritage, her children, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lucille and Dan enjoyed traveling in their retirement years visiting Montana, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, California, Alaska, and Washington, DC. Most recently Lucille resided at the St. Francis Extended Care Facility in Bellingham where she continued her joy of playing Pinochle, a game she mastered at a young age. Lucille was an avid sports fan, very faithful to her Sonics, especially Gus Williams, and even attended a game or two when visiting her daughter in Washington, DC. She also loved the Mariners and was able to watch them win a game the night before she passed away. Survivors include her four children: daughter Linda (Gene) Combs of Gaithersburg, MD, grandchildren Richard and Kristen (Tom) Clark, (great-grandchildren Joseph and Jonathan Clark); son Daniel (Theresa) of Seattle, grandchildren Jimmy, Anne Marie, Jeff and Paul; son David (Connie) of Brookings, OR; son Richard (Linda) of Bellingham, grandchildren Air Force Captain Michael (April), (great-granddaughter Annaliese); Jennifer (Aaron) Coy, (great-grandchildren Alonna and Owen Coy); and Steven. Lucille was also preceded in death by grandson Nicholas Twining (son of David) in 1989 and her sister Erma. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends. Those who have known her over the years will miss Lucille; but they will be comforted knowing that she is now at peace with God and her family members who preceded her in death. The family thanks the staff at St. Francis for the wonderful care Mom received during the past three years. On-line condolences can be left in Lucille's Book of Memories at
