Jack H. Barr

Jack H. Barr, age 95, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 in Bellingham. Born Oct. 19, 1915 in Blanchard, WA, he was the sixth of nine children born to Charles S. and Edna (Warren) Barr. As a youngster, he lived with his family in Cle Elum and Roslyn before moving to Seattle in 1930. His military career began in 1935 when he enlisted in the US Army and in 1940 he joined the US Navy; becoming a WWII combat veteran serving in the Pacific Theater as a CPO in aircraft maintenance. Jack was also a Korean War veteran; retiring from the military in 1959. He then worked for 21 years and retired from the U.S. Postal System in the San Diego, CA area. In 1991, Jack returned to his home state of Washington; where he settled in Whatcom County. Actively involved in numerous organizations he was a member of the following: FOE Aerie 649 and VFW Post 1373, both in Cle Elum, WA; American Legion Post #43 in Sedro Woolley, WA; Fleet Reserve Assn. Branch 245 of Bellingham; Retired CPO Assn. Br. 1 of Oak Harbor, WA and the National Rifle Assn. Jack is survived by two daughters, Janis and Jackie; as well as other family and friends. Graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post #1373 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Cle Elum, WA at a later date.
