Joy Jansen Obituary

Joy Estelle Jansen, 88, left this world into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on March 8, 2011. Joy was born February 22, 1923 in Whatcom County and remained a resident her entire life. She graduated from Lynden High School and on October 29, 1943 she married Cecil John Jansen of Lynden, Washington. Cecil and Joy lived and farmed in Lynden until 1970 when they moved to a beach home at Sandy Point in Ferndale. Joy enjoyed spending many hours on the beach in front of her home collecting shells and watching the marine life. Cecil and Joy took many camping and fishing trips to Alaska, Oregon, and Canada throughout their lives enjoying the company of their friends and family. Joy loved spending time with her family and was surrounded by them in her last days. Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Jansen; brothers, Edwin Pederson, and Lloyd Pederson. She is survived by her sister, Beverly Trecker of Bellingham; sisters-in-law, Marie Pederson of Bellingham and Gertrude (Toots) Jansen of Bellingham; brothers-in-law, Gerbert Jansen of Oak Harbor and Paul Jansen of Bellingham; children, Dick and Sonja Jansen of Lynden, and Don and Jan Jansen of Bellingham; grandchildren, Darrell Jansen of Lynden, Stephanie Jansen of Seattle, Jamie Jansen of Bellingham, and Julie Jansen of Oklahoma City. A graveside service will be held at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale on Friday March 11, at 1:00 pm followed by a 2:00 pm reception at First Christian Reform Church, 1010 Front Street in Lynden. Memorial donations may be made to Whatcom Hospice House, 800 E. Chestnut, Suite 1-A Bellingham, WA 98225. A lady who always had a smile on her face and treated you warmly, whether it was at the beach or a family function. It was a pleasure to have met her and she will be missed by all.
