Idris Oiness Obituary

Idris Oiness of Belling-ham, Washington passed away February 4, 2011. She was born in Manchester, England to Robert David and Edith (Hey-wood) Jones. Idris met and married Melvin Nels Oiness when he was stationed with the U.S. Army in Manchester during WWII, and came to America as a war bride aboard the USS Willard A. Holbrook. Together, Idris and Melvin raised three daughters at 1336 Grant Street in Bellingham. Her family was most important to her. Idris was an elegant, gracious, kind, loving and generous person. She was proud of her English heritage and was especially fond of a good "cuppa" tea. She was an avid reader, a great cook and liked to socialize. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her great grandchildren. Idris was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the St. Anne's Guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; brother, Robert; and sister, Irene. Idris is survived by her sister, Josie Jones of England; her daughters, Susan (Ken) Richardson, Linda (Bob) Wilson, and Janet Oiness-Kennedy; grandchildren, Ryan (Angie) Richardson, Robyn (Lisa) Johnson, Aimee (Keith) Johnson, Megan (John) Tufano, Robby (Michelle) Wilson, and Jenni (Div-ven) Browne; great-grandchildren, Riley Wilson, Jenny Sue and Jessica Richardson, and Luke, Lauren and Lindee Johnson; and numerous other beloved relatives. Idris had many wonderful friends throughout her life. She was a loyal and faithful friend. She will be dearly missed by her cat, Caty. Idris faced the end of her life with courage, dignity and grace. The family wishes to thank the Hospice staff and all of Idris's caregivers for their love, care and compassion. Special thanks to physicians Malone, Kominsky and Goo. Memorials may be made to What-com Hospice, 800 E. Chestnut, Suite 1-A, Bellingham, 98226; the Whatcom Humane Society, 2710 Williamson Way, Bellingham 98229; or St. Paul's Episcopal Church Endowment Fund 2117 Walnut Street, Bellingham 98225. A Burial Eucharist will be held on Saturday, February 12 at 1 o'clock p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2117 Walnut Street in Bellingham, followed by a reception at the church. I've had the pleasure of being close to Nana for the past 14 yr. We had a very special bond & friendship that I will keep close to my heart. Nana tought me many things, the proper time to cook a rare piece of meat, how to roll & back comb hair & much more! Thank you Nana, Linda, Sue & Janet for your open arms & hearts. The past ten months were very special to me, it tought me how important a close family is & how important it is to be there for one another. I'm forever grateful for every moment that I've had.

My husband Gene and I were witnesses to the love Idris greated in her life and surrounded herself with. She was our gentle sweet neighbor and we will miss her very much.

I have such fond memories of Idris and the Grant St house, especially her from scratch macaroni and cheese, and her secret recipe lemon tea cookies. Many of her loveliest traits are seen in her daughters Linda, Sue and Janet. I am truly sorry for your loss.
