Steven Peschek Obituary

Steve Peschek, age 55, passed away peacefully at his home in Bellingham Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Steve is now home in glory with his Heavenly Father after a long courageous battle with Sarcoma Cancer. Steven John Peschek was born October 4, 1961 in Seattle. He spent his formative years in Tacoma, where he attended St. Charles Borromeo Grade School and Bellarmine Preparatory High School. He attended the University of Washington and Western Washington University, where he graduated with a Business Degree in Finance. Steve spent his career in the health care industry. For the past 26 years he was employed at PeaceHealth, as the Reimbursement Manager for the Northwest Network, with responsibility for St. Joseph Medical Center and Ketchikan, Peace Island and United General Medical Centers. Steve was a committed Christian, who loved the Lord deeply and showed this in his daily life and relationships. He met his wife Grace in 2002 and they were married on May 24, 2003. Steve was a loving father, always there for his children. Steve enjoyed God's beautiful creation and the gift of participating in numerous triathlons and running races. In the past 7 years since his first cancer diagnosis Steve completed numerous triathlons and marathons, including two full Ironman triathlons. He often said "to give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift", a quote by Steve Prefontaine. Steve shared his love for running and triathlons with his children. Steve is survived by his wife Grace and his children Ben (Marlene), Maggie Thuman (Bryan), Adam, Cara, Cameron and step-daughter, Courtney Purpura. He is also survived by his parents, John and Vivian Peschek of Tacoma and siblings, Michele Peschek Clarke (Carlton), Mark Peschek (Mirela), Theresa Pfeiffer (Greg) and Maggie Liming (Ed), and many other relatives. Funeral services will be held at Christ Church Bellingham, 2826 Birchwood Avenue, on Saturday, October 29, 2016 1:00 PM, with burial following at Bayview Cemetery. There is a special place in heaven for all those who die of a terminal illness as it is a journey where one- "walks slowly to their death." I believe God only gives the strongest of people this task.

Steve taught his family and friends many lessons during this journey, none of which will be forgotten.

The entire Peschek family will be in my thoughts and prayers in the months and years ahead as they try to adjust to this new normal.

I grew up practically living at the Peschek house! They were my second family! I have so many fond memories of Steve from my childhood. He lived his life to the fullest with love and kindness. I feel blessed to have known him! I know that he is at peace with God. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. and Mrs. Peschek, Michelle, Maggie, Mark and Terri. With love, Beth (LaBrie) Billington

Dear brother you will forever leave a void in our hearts but the lessons you taught us are immeasurable. The dignity and strength you showed were beyond what most could accomplish. You learned the lessons that are the most important by telling us all how much you loved us. You were praising God until the end. We had such a great childhood and many happy memories as adults. 4th of July at your house was the best. I know you are with the angels and Saints giving glory to God.

Some of my greatest memories of high school at Bellarmine Prep were spent with Steve as we trained for a marathon. We ran miles and miles in our new Nike Oregon Waffle shoes and laughed and enjoyed every inch.

In one of our last training runs, Brother Jerry Sullivan, our running coach, said "this isn't just a marathon that you are training for, it is a way of life". For both of us, that is what it became.

Steve continued his passion for running until he couldn't do it any more.

I am grateful that I got to share some of his life's miles with him.
