Boyd Kiel died on May 28, 2016 at home. He was born on Nov. 15, 1929 at Corsica, South Dakota to Harvey and Anne Vander Werff Kiel. He attended a one-room country school for eight years and graduated from Corsica High School in 1947 and then from Northwestern Junior College in 1949. He was married to Ellen Roetman on June 14, 1950 in Lake Park, Iowa. They farmed in South Dakota where their three children were born. In 1955 they moved to Lynden, Washington where they operated a dairy farm and he earned his bachelor's degree at WWCE, now WWU. Boyd taught math at Nooksack High School, in Guam and at Meridian High School. He earned his master's degree at WSU in 1966. He was also a part time Customs Officer for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Stan. He is survived by his wife of 66 years and son, Vic (Sandy), daughter-in-law Marcie, daughter Nancy and stepsister Carol (Fred) Rode and eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He appreciated the opportunity to be involved in church activity all of his life; the last thirty years at Wiser Lake Chapel. A Memorial service will be held at the Wiser Lake Chapel. (7121 Guide Meridian Rd.) at 6:30 pm on June 9th, 2016 Memorial contributions may be made to Wiser Lake Chapel (PO Box 591 Lynden WA 98264), Amy's Place (PO Box 29538, Bellingham, WA 98225) or Whatcom Hospice Foundation (2901 Squalicum Parkway 98225). The family thanks Whatcom Hospice in making his last days comfortable in his home.
