Donald Haaland Obituary

Donald Clarence Haaland, passed away, Monday, May 9, 2011 at the age of 88 at his home in Bellingham, from congestive heart failure, with family by his side. He was born August 6, 1922 in Woden, Iowa to Evangelist Clarence Salmer and Mary (Yost) Haaland. Donald joined the U.S. Army in November 1942 and on December 3, 1943 he married the love of his life, Marian Bernice Pederson in Bottineau, North Dakota. Shortly after he served three years in the South Pacific Theatre as a lab technician for the 128th Station Hospital he was discharged in March 1946. Donald was a carpenter by trade and worked building homes, commercial construction, and supervised many projects in North Dakota and Washington. He was a maintenance supervisor at Georgia-Pacific for 15 years and retired in October 1984. Don was an active member of Northlake (Geneva) Community Church and served on the board. He also served on the board and council of The Firs, and was a life member of the Carpenters Union. He is Survived by his wife, Marian of 67 years, son, Don David and wife Penni; son, Dale and wife Mary; Grandchildren, Kimberley Lund and husband Gil, Peder Haaland and wife Annie; Kirsten Petermann and husband James and Kaari Haaland; Great-grandchildren, Campbell and Gunnar Lund, 3 nephews and other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Northlake Community Church, 1471 E. McLeod Rd., Bellingham, WA., 2:00p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011. Private family Burial was at Greenacres Cemetery. Memorial gifts can be given to Northlake Community Church, Missions or to The Firs. Arrangements are under the care of

Donald surely was one of the nicest men we ever knew. Steady, dependable and a wonderful, contagious sense of humor. Doug & I have lots of good memories of times spent with the Haaland family. Hugs to Marian and you all.
